• Thiếu đạm:

Khi cacao trồng ở bóng rợp quá thưa hay không bóng rợp và vườn có nhiều cỏ thì thường rất dễ bị thiếu đạm.
Triệu chứng thiếu đạm thường biểu hiện trên toàn cây, cây phát triển chậm, lá nhỏ, có màu lục nhạt hay ngả qua màu vàng và thường có những vết cháy khô trên lá.

• Thiếu lân:

Thường xảy ra ở các vùng đất dinh dưỡng kém.
Triệu chứng thiếu lân cũng biểu hiện trên toàn cây. Khi thiếu lân thì cây chậm phát triển nhưng bộ lá lại không mất màu xanh như thiếu đạm. Các lá dưới thấp thường rụng sớm, thỉnh thoàng gần đầu chót lá có những vết khô cháy hay đôi lúc có màu vàng đồng.

• Thiếu Kali:

Thường xảy ra trên các loại đất cát hơi chua và dễ bị rửa trôi.
Triệu chứng thiếu kali thường biểu hiện trên các lá già. Khi thiếu kali, các lá già khô thường bị cháy khô bắt đầu từ chót lá trở vào cuống.

• Thiếu magnesium:

Cacao trồng trên đất chua và các cây con đang ở trong vườn ươm thường dễ bị thiếu magnesium.
Khi thiếu magnesium các lá có màu lục nhạt, giữa các gân lá hay bìa lá có những đốm mất màu xanh. Tuy nhiên, các lá già không khô rụng sớm như trường hợp thiếu lân
